Equipment Reliability
Equipment Reliability Solutions:
You can't get Lean without first being Reliable!
Because reliable equipment and processes are prerequisites to becoming Lean, it is critical that the company take the necessary steps to provide reliability, before becoming "too lean".
Equipment Reliability, while thought to be important across the entire plant or site, has the greatest implications at the equipment constraints, or limitations in product flow. Just as excess inventory sometimes provides insurance against unreliable processes or equipment, excess capacity in non-constraint equipment might not necessarily require as much reliability. The good news is that Maintenance organizations do not have to provide the same level of service everywhere! Targeting the right solutions at the right problems is critical to meet the reliability requirements of Lean while still keeping cost to a minimum. That is what LAI does.
Equipment Reliability solutions are those which have direct impact at and on the equipment. These are depicted at the left side of the Reliability block on the figure above.
