Planning & Scheduling

Work Management SimulationSM

The Work Management SimulationSM Planning & Scheduling Session is an innovative, interactive means to transfer the many concepts of effective maintenance work management to a group of participants. This simulation goes far beyond showing the importance of proactive maintenance in the pursuit of reliability; it shows participants how it is attained.

Communication Approach:

It has long been understood that concepts are communicated much more effectively by participating or "doing" rather than hearing or seeing. The Work Management SimulationSM Planning & Scheduling Simulation allows the participants to see the negative effects of "doing what we've always done" in a typically reactive maintenance environment. It then allows them to make incremental improvements in the way maintenance work is Identified, Planned & Scheduled, showing the considerable increase in work accomplished between every round.

Managing Maintenance Challenges: Not a Game of Chance...

Planning and Scheduling Work Management Simulation

The simulation begins where many organizations currently reside; high degrees of reactivity, little or no planning, and scheduling to the degree where Technicians are kept busy with a clipboard of work to do.

The simulation encounters unclear job scope, absence of documentation, poorly managed spare parts system, every job being equal in priority, and little history. As each round unfolds, changes are made to improve the way we manage work...

Two Approaches

The Work Management SimulationSM Planning & Scheduling Session is offered with two separate approaches to communicate its message:

First, it can be provided with supplemental training on Planning & Scheduling industry-best practices between each round so that participants can learn, then select and apply each technique to see the impact on the amount of work completed. This method is best for groups that are tasked with implementing the resulting improvements, including maintenance supervisors, planners, schedulers, engineering and technicians.

Second, it can be provided without training, but instead with basic instruction regarding structured Planning & Scheduling industry-best practices between each round so that participants can witness the impact of each on the amount of work completed. This method is best for a leadership group in which there is little time to make a huge impact.
